MUSSOORIE - CHAKRATA

Updated: Jun 6, 2023

It was the first time we were going on a family road trip without a driver and that too on mountains. Akshit (my elder brother) said that there is a first time for everything then why not the first time driving in the mountains? Our family friend had opened a resort in Mussoorie, so it was decided that we will stay at BRV Resort for two nights. One day in Mussoorie and one day for Chakrata.

We went on this trip in June end (2018). It took us around 7 to 8 hours to reach the resort, extra hours because of the rain. We didn’t face any problems while driving, it was fun. Uttrakhand is very green especially if we compare it to Himachal Pradesh and during monsoon season, the greenery on the mountains seems dense.

So on the first day, we went to the Mall Road, Mussoorie. The mall road has its vibe like you can spend a good amount of time there just roaming. There are a lot of famous cafes and also there is a guy who is famous for making the tastiest omelets in India, Lovely Omelette Centre. We skipped the Kempty Falls for two reasons, first was that we have been there multiple times earlier, and second that nowadays that place is way too crowded.

On the second day, we went to Chakrata. Chakrata is a cantonment area and is at a good height. The temperature in Chakrata is lower than in Mussoorie. It took us about 2-2.5 hours to reach there. We did not plan to stay there, same day up-down. Also, there was one more reason to visit Chakrata, to buy the famous rajma(kidney beans). There are large farms of rajma, rice, and many different varieties of lentils. So there is a huge wholesale market for these products. Visitors usually go there for sure.

So this was it, a short family trip and also a short break from our busy lives. By the way, on the return journey, we experienced a punctured tire situation in the middle of nowhere. So we both had to solve this problem by changing the punctured tire with the stepney. It took us about an hour to do it but we did it really well. I hope this skill will be useful in the future.
